The computer, calculator par excellence does not seem at first sight intended to turn to a tool for artistic creation. The digital image one creates lost any contact with the matter and is no more than simulation of an image.

Devoting me during years in my workshop to drawing, painting, engraving, assembling, copy-art I found a new challenge: the computer and its multiple graphic and pictorial possibilities.

As the repetition of characters and reasons was a headlight in my traditional work what could be more normal than use the computer, multiplying tool par excellence. Already mixing several techniques in my traditional work, why not associate numerical experiments.

In parallel I reversed my step. On the basis of my traditional works photographed then scanned thus present on my screen I have been able to handle them to lead to new results.

Thanks to software the possibilities of intervention on an image are practically unlimited: one may intervene on only one pixel or a contiguous group or not, copy and stick selections, mix various images by overlaying transparencies, act on the colours, change luminosity and contrast, stretch and distort the image, change the prospect and dimension, add special effects or stylise the image, make it more complex or on the contrary simplifying it extremely.

While learning how to handle the mouse one can arrive at a result not less direct and significant than in drawing or in painting.

The computer allows to retrogress constantly and to continue several variations in parallel. The possibilities of experimentation are thus multiplied too. All these modifications operate on the data-processing matrix what allows the edition of the same image in variable formats or on variable matters.

To control the machine is a thing. To create in is another.
